Casuals 1 Dorchester Town 1
Casuals finished their best ever season with a 1-1 home draw against Dorchester Town.
In a match greatly effected by the wind, it was Dorchester who opened the scoring in the first half. A hoisted clearance held up in the wind, with keeper unable to make his ground to the ball, together with a cleverly timed run by the Dorchester forward, enabled Olaf Koszela to score the opener. The game carried on with both sides trying to play some good football but with the strong wind it was never easy. Late into the second half, Dorchester were given a penalty, which they duly despatched to the outside of the post. It was however Casuals, who scored a late equaliser, when after a goalmouth scrabble, Casuals sub Gabby O'Dunaike finally put the ball home.
The draw leaves Casuals finishing in the top half of the Southern League Premier Division South. The club finishes in its' best ever position.
And realistically, a position most local clubs would be proud of.
The club held it's awards in the Players Lounge / Vice-Presidents Tea Room. The friendly, happy event was attended by the players, the management, the players families, the board of directors, supporters and match day assistances. This all gave a family feel to the small club.
Awards on the night,
Supporters Player of The Year;- Jerry Wiltshire
Managers Player of The Year;- Tarik Moore-Azille
The Boars Player of The Year;- Tarik Moore-Azille
Best Goal of The Year scored by;- John Gilbert (v Hendon)
Most improved Player;- Bradley Keetch.
The general summary of the speeches was that the club had achieved the aims it had set out at the start of the season. It was felt that, although at times the club had produced some remarkable performances, on other occasions, it hadn't quite shown it's full potential. The general feeling that the club is capable of an even better finish next season.
