Casuals 3 Beaconsfield Town 0
The first 30-40 mins appeared to be two mid-table teams playing under windy conditions with both sides fluffing good chances, with neither sides producing any real fluid football. Beaconsfield started the game in buoyant mood following the emphatic win last Saturday, Casuals kept their hopes alive with effective defending. Casual would consider themselves to be the more fortunate of the two sides going in 1-0 up at half time. Their goal was scored following good work by John Gilbert, who laid the ball off to Danny Rowe, who crossed to man of the match Jordy Mongoy to place the ball into the open net, with the outside of his right boot.
The second half was barely underway when, a move of upmost quality, involving several players, worked down Casuals left flank, resulted in a cross knocked home by Jordy Mongoy. This set the scene for the rest of the half, with the wind dropping, Casuals played some good interpassing teamwork rather than hoisting the ball out of defence. When super sub Ansu Janneh came on to score Casuals third, Casuals got the result they deserved, judging by their second half performance.
The signing of M-o-M Jordy Mongoy seemed to freshen up the Casuals front line. Casuals academy member Leonardo Gonzalez got some useful step 3 experience. Casuals seem to get that team spirit well and truly back which bodes well for this seasons run in.
Casuals remain 11th but have opened up a big gap with the lower half of the table. In the league Dark Horses Yate Town (I suspected they might make the play offs) beat Farnborough at Farnborough 2-1 coming back from a goal down. With the next couple of games, Home to Yate Town, Away at Poole Town, Casuals have the opportunity to show how they have improved this season, with a possible top ten finish. Oh and Spuds lot beat Hendon 1-0 and remain 3rd, with Taunton pressing them hard. (No doubt Mrs Sixpence will have been telling all about the goal.)
NEXT UP SATURDAY 19th Feb K.O. 3-00pm at The Hub, home to Yate Town.
Locally,
Cobham beat Frimley Green 2-1 to maintain a mid-table position.
Molesey lost 0-1 at home to Banstead Ath in the bottom of the table clash.
Scotty Harris side won 4-3 at AFC Croydon Athletic.
And the Islanders won 2-1 at home to League Leaders Guildford United.
Wimbledon Casuals won 4-1 away at AFC Ewell, go top and look good to play the Islanders next season.
