Wimborne Town 0 Casuals 0
It was a buoyant coach trip down to Wimborne with a Casuals team hopeful of a getting a result. Casuals were met by a lovely club with a lovely set up and so on to the game itself.
After the early too's and frow's the game settled into the pattern of Casuals attacking being met by solid Wimborne defending. Casuals had chances, in the first half, none more so than Tom Birds one on one with the keeper, which was well defended by the Wimborne shot stopper. Although Casuals had the better of the game, without suspended Adam Liddle, they never had that clear a chance, although having the lion share of the game.
The second half started in a similar vein with Casuals looking clearly the better time. However not to be out done Wimborne had a ten to twenty minute spell in which they appeared to threaten the Casuals goal. In one instance it took brave defending by Michal Gough to nullify a Wimborne goalscoring opportunity. As they half wore on the Casuals began to look to finish the job. Good work by Rohdell Jordan resulted in Danny Rowe putting the ball in the net, but being adjudged to be off-side. Asnu Janneh coming on as substitute missed a golden opportunity when he scuffed his shot, when it was easier to score. However the main talking point came late in the game when John Gilbert having been sent through, clever knocked the ball passed the advancing keeper and then appeared to be up ended. The referee waved play on, much to the frustration of the Casuals team, supporters, directors, etc. The final whistle blow 0-0 and that's what history will record.
Casuals have a week before they meet Beaconsfield Town next Saturday (12th Feb), who had a eye opening 6-1 win against Harrow Borough.
My own personal comment is, that although a play-off place would appear to be only a remote possibility, to finish above the old established Isthmian sides such as, Harrow Borough and Hendon would be no mean achievement; possibly a springboard to an ever improving future prospects.
