Some people have been asking me about promotion / relegation from Step 3, i.e Southern Prem South, Southern Pre Central, Isthmian League, Northern League.
I believe that the the current F.A. instructed that 8 clubs are promoted from Step 3, (How that's fully worked out I'm unsure), across the four Step 3 leagues.
However The National League has only 23 clubs i.e. one short so only 3 get relegated to step 2, (4 are promoted). The National South has only 21 clubs, The National North has 22 clubs. Both Divisions are to be enlarged to 24 clubs. i.e. the National South and North will need 5 new clubs plus 1 (due to 4 promoted to Step 1 but only 3 relegated). So at Step 2 only 2 get relegated but 8 are promoted from step 3. At step The Southern Central have only 21 clubs, which will be increased to 22. Therefore at Step 3 only 9 clubs across the 4 divisions will get relegated with 8 promoted.
Yeah, OK, I understand it.
