Casuals go through to next round of the F.A. Trophy; 1st Round due to be played on 13th November, (I assume the away game at Salisbury will be put back).
With the kick-off being delayed by half an hour, till approx 3-30pm, due to problems with the visitors coach, neither sides had the best of preparations for the match..
It was Casuals who looked the better of the sides in the first half and clearly showed the difference in levels. However, only Daniel Rowes goal, finally put home in a series of passes/shots within the penalty area, on the 21st minute, separated the two sides. A half in which Casuals clearly showing a lack of appetite for that "final shot on goal".
With the second half under way Great Wakering Rovers, appeared to have a "we'll give it our best shot" attitude, "upped their game", with Ashley Nzala equalising in the 53rd minute. Casuals then tried to force themselves into the game, but were met with a blanket G W R defence, who soak up any attempts by Casuals to attack.. As I was thinking how I would persuade my wife to have a day out in November in Southend, I was informed that there wasn't a replay, with penalty shoot deciding the game.. Quirkily, in the dying minutes of the game Casuals were awarded a penalty for a foul on Ansu Jennah, which Rohdell Gordon waited for all the rhetoric, pointing and other paraphernalia to stop, steadied himself and duly put home.. Which duly left the referee to blow his whistle for full time.
Casuals go into the draw, I think Monday, which I believe is to be played on the 13th November. I assume the Southern League game at Salisbury will be put back. It was nice to see the Great Wakering Rovers Marching Band, which duly had a pint or two with the Stags Army at the end of the game. Also a few Hampton supporters popped their heads round the doors, saying how well we played against them.
CASUALS NEXT GAME - HOME TO HARTLEY WINTNEY TUESDAY 2nd November K.O. 7-45pm. Southern League Cup.
