In front of a good crowd, including a large number of juniors, these two mid-table teams fought out a 1-1 draw. Marine scored just before half time when Ryan Campbell took advantage of hesitancy within the Casuals defence to score for the visitors. Second half Casuals equalised through a Rohdell Gordon penalty, after Adam Liddle was adjudged to have been fouled by Marine keeper Martin Horsell. Casuals had a good shout for a penalty later on not given. 1-1 seem to be a fair result between the two strong sides.
The result moves Casuals to 9th but 5 points of a play-off place.
On the back pitch, Wimbledon Casuals beat Kew Park Rangers 4-0 to maintain the position at the head of Surrey South Eastern Intermediate Div 1. Coincidentally the other Casuals play in gold and black... What a coincidence.
Within the league there were some interesting results, Taunton beat Beaconsfield 7-1. I think Beaconsfield might have something to prove when we visit there Monday night (18th Oct). Merthyr went to Met Police and won 2-1. Ollie Robinson scoring a late consolation for the Police. (What's the story there Spud?)
Locally; Molesey drew 1-1 at fellow strugglers Banstead Athletic. Hersham yet again conceded four goals, this time at Worcester Park. Hersham drop to 8th. North of the River;- Our good friends and rivals Hampton had the disappointment of being knock out of the F.A. Cup losing 2-0 at Ebbsfleet. Abbey Rangers lost 5-1 at North Greenford. Chertsey lost 4-1 down the river at Southend, but did take an early lead.
