A bit for the Anoraks;-Sholing (Not Sholing Sports) come into Tuesday nights game in good form, having beaten top of the table Cirencester 2-0 away in the Southern League South. (Cirencester hadn't conceded a league goal until then) They have also had good league wins, at home to Highworth Town (3-2) and away at Evesham United (3-0). They reached the 3rd Qualifying Round for the first timein their history, with three away wins;- 1-0 at Bermonton Heath Harlequins (Step 6); 2-1 at Fairford Town (Step 5) and a long journey to Cornwall to beat Saltash United (Step 6) 3-1. Sholing have a very good cup record and won the F.A. Vase in 2014 at Wembley by beating West Auckland Town 1-0 Neither Sholing nor Casuals have ever reached the 4th Qualifying Round of the F.A. Cup before. A bit of History;-
Sholing were originally named Vosper Thornycroft ( hence the nickname The Boatmen) being reformed in 1960. They embraced senior football in 1991-92 season joining the Hampshire League Div 2, progressing to Hants Premier by 2000-01. ( The current manager Dave Daiper taking over the helm in 1999, having joined from BAT ). They changed their name to VT F.C. in 2003 and adopted their current name Sholing, ( On the eventual demise of Sholing Sports) in 2010. They have bounced between Wessex/Hants League and Southern South, since about 2000.
